Ring Around the Donut

I’ve invented a new nursery rhyme based on “Ring Around the Rosie” called “Ring Around the Donut” ©. I’ve debuted it on Facebook for the exclusive use of my friends, and I happily reprint it here for you.

Of course, I’ve tested this new rhyme on my own children, so rest assured, it’s safe and effective.

Ring Around the Donut – © 2009, Thomas Barton

Ring around the donut
Pocket full of no nuts
Cashews, cashews
We all fall up

At which point you pull your child (carefully) up in to the air. Note that the child’s mother may complain that you’re going to dislocate their arms. Use your judgement of course :)

Android Phone Sprint

I need a new phone; Cell phone. I really want an iPhone, but I don’t want to give up my nifty unlimited Sprint plan that I’ve had for years. What makes it so nifty? Unlimited text and data for $15. That’s not a misprint. But you can’t get that deal today. I got it years ago, when I had the old Handspring with the neat phone attachment. Back then it was an oddity and I’m sure Sprint did not envision anyone pulling down over 1GB of data a month on their cell phone.

I’m stuck with Sprint because of the aforementioned data plan. Normally this would not bother me. It’s the shiny and new that bothers me. I want shiny and new and a new toy to play with. The paucity of cool phones on the Sprint network is really what bothers me. Don’t say “Instinct”.

I should also mention that I like my phone to be open, tweakable and configurable. I like to install stuff on it, use a shell to ssh into my mail server and fire up Pine with teeny tiny little letters. That’s why my Treo 650 was great. But after using an iPod Touch it’s quite evident that my little Treo with it’s cute small screen is way past it’s prime. The new Treo’s are just an old idea rehashed, that’s why I won’t buy one.

My sole answer at the moment is to wait for a new Andriod phone on the Sprint network. But I won’t wait for long Sprint. The new year. If I don’t have an Android phone with a nice big screen by the first quarter of 2009, AT&T is going to get a new customer.

Please.

Our friend Jennipher Satterly was married to William Kennedy this past Saturday. The pictures are not my best, but a picture, no matter how perfect, could not capture how stunning Jennipher was that day. Of course, William was handsome as well.

I owe Jennipher quite a debt; she introduced me to my wife Pamela, who I could not imagine living without. Congratulations to Jennipher and William.

For extra fun: If you happened to go to school with either Jennipher, William, or Pamela, look carefully through the photos to see if you recognize anyone.
